What it means
The broad expectation that technological progress can improve human life. It encompasses conditional, institution-conscious optimism as well as stronger faith in markets or invention. It is not identical to e/acc, and it does not require endorsing every product labeled AI.
The strongest case
Technologies have expanded what people can do. Progress can relieve scarcity and create options unavailable through redistribution alone. An exclusive focus on failures can hide the cost of technologies never developed.
The difficult part
Benefits are not automatically shared, and some harms appear before institutions adapt. A credible optimistic argument identifies mechanisms, tradeoffs and who benefits, rather than treating historical improvement as a warranty for the next release.
