What it means
A broad category of practices using AI in making, selecting, modifying or presenting artistic work. It includes different levels of human control and different relationships to existing work. “AI art” names a production feature, not a single style, quality level or ethical verdict.
The strongest case
New tools can enable experimentation, accessibility and forms of expression that would otherwise be difficult. Artistic value can involve curation, iteration, context and intention as well as manual execution.
The difficult part
Provenance, compensation and disclosure matter, but do not replace aesthetic judgment. Conversely, an appealing image does not resolve the ethics of its production. Arguments are clearer when taste, authorship and rights are discussed separately.
